School Meals Monitor

Meal Monitor is a software based system that controls the management of school lunches in school canteens and refectories.

Each child is given a barcoded card* which they need to present in the dining room. The Barcode is read and the data is logged in the system that a child has had a meal that day. Their account is debited accordingly. This means that a child will only pay for the meals that they have consumed. Any credit left on an account will be carried over to the next term, ensuring no loss to the parents. The system accommodates non-paying children whereby they still produce a card to be swiped, which is then debited from their account. There would be no embarrassment in the dinner queue as not even the operative need be aware of their personal circumstances.

System benefits:
Reduces administration costs, by reducing the amount of paperwork.
A child would only be allowed to have a single meal on any one day. Once their card has been swiped, any further attempt to have the card swiped would result in it being rejected.
The system provides an accurate record of school meals taken for any particular child.
Outstanding accounts are flagged up and a standard template letter can then be sent out to the parents informing them of this.
The school/establishment can set the limit to the amount of debt per child that they are willing to go up to before a flag appears.
As this is a paperless system for recording and taking meals, it means that there is less staffing required thus cutting down on cost.
Any school/establishment would be able to pull off an analysis for meals consumed which would in turn help for budgetary purposes.
