In 2007 we continued to roll out Coventry City Council's implementation for self-service. 5 libraries including the Central Library have now been upgraded with RFID tags, Overprinting, Self-Issue Machines, Staff Workstations, Conversion Stations, & RFID Security Gates. We upgraded the despatching system of the privately-owned distribution Company Brian Rayner Transport. The project included the supply of CipherLab 8500 scanners for 2D barcode capture. For more information see case study.
The Maintenance Department at Bridgend County Borough Council has chosen Telescan2 Portable Scanners to collect maintenance data from their sub-contractors. This data combined with the database written by us will enable Bridgend CBC to demonstrate compliance with regulations on maintaining their assets at all Council facilities.
The
2007 has also seen the start of our installation of a campus-wide access control system for The University of Bedfordshire Luton campus. The installation is an addition to our Sentry access control system already in place in the Learning Centre at the University, and includes the control of in excess of 40 doors, car park barriers and a full-height pedestrian turnstile.

2005 has opened with some significant advances for SB Electronic Systems Ltd. The Library and Information show at the Birmingham NEC in April saw the launch of the Codeco range of Library Self Check equipment. Codeco are Europe's leading library self check equipment supplier having over 750 installations throughout Scandinavia, Germany, Australia, Canada and now the United Kingdom.
SB Electronic Systems Ltd first Codeco installation was completed at the beginning of May at the University of Manchester. The Codeco range includes both barcode and RFID self issue and return machines as well as hybrid machines that will cover issue and return both barcode and RFID books. These 'hybrid' machines allow a library to roll-out the introduction of RFID over an extended period of time as and when their budgets allow them to do so. Sophisticated book sorting modules are also available.
The Telescan2 portable barcode scanner designed and manufactured by SB Electronic Systems Ltd has been successfully launched in the UK. Phil Dawson has been employed as Business Development Manager to develop the distribution channel in the UK. We will shortly be launching a Bluetooth version of Telescan. This proven technology will enable up to seven Telescan2's to communicate with one PC using a small USB Plug and Play device. Our Telepen Library System for mobile libraries has recently been upgraded. East Sussex County Council are using the new version in their mobile libraries. See our new web page for more information.Sentry Access Control system has undergone a major upgrade. Sentry 11 is now written around the MySQL database, improving stability for large databases and providing the ability to have multi-user systems. The functionality of Sentry has been considerably improved including the ability to have multiple libraries within the same institution.
Sentry orders recently received from new customers include University College Dublin and Northampton Hospital. Existing customers who are upgrading to the new SpeedStile turnstiles include University College London, University of Warwick and University of Nottingham. In fact, 2005 looks like being a record year for Sentry.
Our reputation in bespoke software development for data capture resulted in MD5, a company specialising in the forensic analysis of mobile phones and computers, placing an order for SB to develop a tracking system. The sensitive nature of their work demands that accurate recording of receipts and despatches is paramount. Our system includes signature capture to record receipt and despatch of equipment. The system has replaced the inefficient manual tasks previously used.
