Codeco's MARK4 Automatic return machine is simple and user-friendly. Design emphasis has been placed on easy operation and a fast returning sequence.

Returning
The book is pushed, spine down, between two v-shaped, intermovable plates. As soon as the item is positioned between the plates, a conveyor belt will take over the "work", and lead the book the rest of the way through the automatic return machine. The bar code (or RFID tag) is read and the book detection system is activated. On the back of the machine a small conveyor belt (minisorter) is placed, which can run in two directions. The aim of this is to sort out reserved return items from all other items.

Returning outside the library
The library can, with a Codeco MARK4 automatic return machine, offer the patrons of the library an extended returning service. It is possible to place the machine so that it faces the street and to mount a rise-and-fall pane (armored glass), which protects the automatic return machine at night and against possible vandalism in general.

Next to the machine, a patron card reader is mounted. At approved patron registration the protective pane opens giving access to the machine. The items are returned in the normal way, and the patron takes back their card. Finally, a receipt is printed, and the glass pane returns to its closed position.
