Student Attendance Systems

SB Electronic Systems Ltd are pleased to have launched Onyx, their Student Attendance Monitoring System, in 2008. The system has been developed in conjunction with the University of Bedfordshire who took possession of the first system.

Onyx can be used for the following purposes:
  • Lecture Attendance

  • Assignment Submission

  • Examination Attendance

  • Event Monitoring

  • Open Day Registration

    • The student attendance system makes use of a student's existing ID card to tie the student to a place or event at a particular time.  By scanning cards at lectures, you can monitor student attendance to build an early picture of any student difficulties while there is still time to act.  The same system can be utilised to record key events like examination attendance or coursework submission to ensure that courses are completed and grades are maintained.

    Card scanning is a rapid and reliable approach that eliminates the human error that is inevitable with manual recording techniques.  Our student attendance system operates with fixed and/or portable scanners.

    Fixed Scanners - Fixed position scan stations can be supplied complete with card reader and display.  The display gives confirmatory information to the student and administrative information to system supervisors.  The scan stations communicate back to the central application through the organisation's standard computer network infra-structure.     Portable Scanners - Portable scanners give greater flexibility in use.  A single scanner could cover a number of rooms plus places where a fixed scanner cannot be used such as field trips.  The portable scanner will need the operator to enter the location of use and event type and can then start scanning cards.  A range of portable scanners exist for different card types, to suit whether a wireless (e.g. wi-fi) solution is required and to match your budget.

    All events are recorded for future analysis either from within the attendance application or externally by directly querying the database.
